Growth and Learning Results in the Lives of PCYC Kids

 (September 2004 through August 2005)

  • 381 junior and senior high youth increased their opportunity for school success by enrolling in PCYC's Alternative School.  Of these 80% achieved successful outcomes, and 78% of seniors received their high school diploma.

  • 24 teen mothers developed and enhanced their parenting skills with their 24 babies through their participations in PCYC's STEEP (Steps Toward Effective and Enjoyable Parenting) program.

  • 937 children kindergarten through eighth grade in 23 Minneapolis schools grew in their ability to get along better with one another and are better prepared to learn in school, through their participation in PCYC Friendship Groups and Friendship Clubs.

  • 72 children and youth engaged in dance, music, song, and spoken word through the Capri Theater Arts Program.

  • 154 neighborhood children enjoyed a safe, structured, and academically enriching place to go after school and in the summer through PCYC's After School Enrichment  and Summer Friends programs. 100% of the children made academic progress, and all reported feeling safe while in the program.

  • 517 young children were paired with 87 volunteer special friends in 8 elementary schools, spending one-to-one time exploring the world of books together in the Rocking Readers program.

  • 2,848 youth and adults participated in North Minneapolis community events including the National Night Out, Graduation Ceremonies, numerous community meetings and rallies, and Capri Theater productions.

  • 940 children experience the joy of giving to others as they selected gifts for their family members at the Christmas 2004 Children’s Christmas Gift Sale event.   ___ volunteers participated on the day of the event, and hundreds of others, including church youth groups, collected gifts and donated money.

  • 324 students in the Alternative School participated in PCYC’s Health & Wellness program, learning about good health habits, tobacco use prevention and cessation, and setting personal health goals.  70% of those who set nutrition or fitness goals were successfully achieved.

  • 40 North Minneapolis youth engaged in an outdoor learning experience at PCYC’s Wilderness Canoe Base in the Boundary Waters of Northern Minnesota .

  • 735 children and families comprised the total attendance at the new Saturday Family Movies at the Capri.  Occasional family dinners following the movies were made possible by hundreds of volunteers and donors from colleague organizations, churches, community members and friends of PCYC.
