Honeywell Employees and Retirees Refurbish PCYC Buildings and
Grounds
The
buildings and grounds of PCYC were the center of attention on May 18
by more than 100 volunteers, Honeywell employees and retirees and
PCYC
High School
students. They all
dedicated their time, and used tens of thousands of dollars in
donated materials, to refurbishing PCYC's campus including Capri
Theater, the high school gymnasium, an after school book collection,
and to completing outdoor landscaping on the PCYC campus.
Honeywell and Rebuilding
Together Twin Cities, along with Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak, led
the all-day revitalization project.
The all-day event featured a
luncheon celebration and formal presentation, with Mayor Rybak
proclaiming May 18 Honeywell Rebuilding Together Day in the city of
Minneapolis, challenging all businesses to dedicate time and
resources to making North Minneapolis a safer and healthier place to
live.
"We
are grateful for Honeywell's continued commitment to the city of
Minneapolis, and North Minneapolis in particular," said Mayor
Rybak. "The many volunteers who took time to be here today have
shown significant passion and dedication to the Northside, and their
efforts make a world of difference to our youth."
"It
is an honor for us to be here today celebrating the work of PCYC,"
said Jay Schrankler, a Honeywell vice president, in his welcoming
remarks. "PCYC's devotion to this community is an inspiration
and a call to action. Each person, business and organization is
called to make community revitalization a priority."
Kathy
Greiner, executive director of Rebuilding Together Twin Cities,
thanked the sponsors of donated materials, including Honeywell,
Wagner Spray Tech Corp., ProFloor Inc., Harmon Glass and Orrock
Cable Construction, and encouraged both volunteerism and
revitalization projects across the Twin Cities.
PCYC
Executive Director
Anne Long
expressed her gratitude for the renovations. "As a result of
your generosity, our youth will know that the people of their
community care about them," Long said.
