The
Executive Director’s Update
Anne Long
Revered management thinker
Peter F. Drucker tells us
“the future will not just happen if one wishes hard enough…
The future requires decisions – now.
It imposes risk – now.
It requires action – now.
It demands allocation of resources, and above all allocation
of human resources – now. It
requires work – now.” (The Daily Drucker, 2004)
PCYC has been focusing on
such planning work for the last nine months, trying to make wise
decisions now that will shape our organization’s future. The
result is the PCYC Strategic Plan for 2007-2112, much of which is
presented in this edition of Perspectives.
Led by consultants Gary J.
Stern (Stern Consulting International), Shelby Andress ( I. Shelby
Andress, Inc )and
Bob McNulty
(Partners for Livable Communities), and with input and discussions
with hundreds of community members, key PCYC customers and
stakeholders, staff and board, students and parents the mission
statement was slightly revised, a vision for the year 2112 was
created, operating principles were explicated, and bold strategic
goals with objectives were crafted to guide our work into the
future.
PCYC has never been one to
put strategic plans on the shelf to gather dust.
To breathe life into our strategic goals and to realize that
vision for 2112, we are preparing a detailed workplan, with
timelines and responsibilities, and a process to track and report
our progress to the board, the community, and to all PCYC
stakeholders.
Watch for reports on our
activities and accomplishments and how you can be involved in future
editions of Perspectives.
